The Ultimate Guide to Stress-Free Moving

Moving can be a daunting task, but with a little planning and some handy tips, you can make it a stress-free experience. We've got you covered with our top tips to ensure a smooth and easy move into an RPM apartment. Let’s get started!

Start Early and Stay Organized

First things first, start planning your move as early as possible. Create a moving checklist to keep track of tasks and set deadlines. Breaking down the process into manageable steps makes it less overwhelming. Trust us, your future self will thank you!

Declutter Before You Pack

Moving is the perfect time to declutter. Go through your belongings and decide what to keep, donate, or toss. This not only reduces the amount of stuff you need to pack but also makes unpacking easier. Plus, a fresh start in your new home feels amazing without unnecessary clutter.

Gather Packing Supplies

Stock up on packing supplies like boxes, tape, bubble wrap, and markers. Having everything you need on hand will save you from last-minute runs to the store. Pro tip: Use small boxes for heavy items like books and larger boxes for lighter items like linens.

Pack Room by Room

To stay organized, pack one room at a time. Label each box with its contents and the room it belongs to. This makes unpacking a breeze and helps movers know where to place each box in your new home. Don’t forget to pack a “first-night” box with essentials like toiletries, clothes, and important documents.

Keep Essentials Handy

Pack a separate bag with essentials you’ll need immediately, such as medications, chargers, snacks, and a change of clothes. This way, you won’t have to dig through boxes for the things you need right away.

Use What You Have

Save money and packing materials by using items you already have. Suitcases, laundry baskets, and even hampers can be used to transport belongings. Towels and blankets make great padding for fragile items.

Hire Movers or Recruit Friends

Decide whether you want to hire professional movers or enlist the help of friends and family. If you go the DIY route, make sure to have plenty of snacks and drinks on hand to keep your helpers happy. If hiring movers, book them well in advance and check reviews to ensure they’re reliable.

Take Breaks and Stay Hydrated

Moving is hard work, so remember to take breaks and stay hydrated. Moving day can be long and tiring, but regular breaks will keep your energy up and stress levels down.

Unpack Strategically

Once you’ve arrived at your new home, start by unpacking the essentials. Focus on one room at a time to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Setting up your bedroom and bathroom first can make your new place feel more like home right away.

Make it Fun

Turn on your favorite music, order some takeout, and make unpacking a fun experience. Celebrate the small victories along the way, like setting up your living room or organizing your kitchen.

Moving doesn’t have to be a stressful ordeal. With a bit of preparation and a positive attitude, you can turn moving day into an exciting new adventure. At RPM Living, we’re here to make your transition as smooth as possible. So, follow these tips, take a deep breath, and enjoy the journey to your new home. You’ve got this!

7 Creative Tips for Refreshing Your RPM Apartment for a Summery Vibe

As the temperatures rise and the days get longer, it's time to give your apartment a refreshing makeover to welcome the summer season. But who says you need to break the bank to achieve a breezy, summery feel? With a little creativity and some strategic tweaks, you can transform your living space into a sunny oasis without spending a fortune.

Bring in Natural Light

Embrace the sunshine by maximizing natural light in your apartment. Pull back heavy curtains and let the sunlight flood in. If privacy is a concern, consider sheer curtains that allow light to filter through while still maintaining some level of privacy. Rearrange your furniture to take advantage of windows and create cozy nooks bathed in sunlight.

Add Vibrant Accents

Inject pops of color into your space with vibrant accents that evoke the spirit of summer. Dig out those bright throw pillows, lightweight throws, and colorful rugs from storage to add a playful touch to your living room or bedroom. Incorporate fresh flowers or potted plants for a natural burst of color and freshness.

Create an Outdoor Oasis

If you have a balcony or patio, now's the time to transform it into an outdoor oasis where you can relax and unwind. Arrange comfortable seating, such as lounge chairs or a bistro set, and add soft outdoor cushions and throws for added comfort. Hang string lights or lanterns to create a cozy ambiance for evening gatherings.

DIY Artwork

Get creative and channel your inner artist by creating your own DIY artwork to adorn your walls. Whether it's a colorful abstract painting, a botanical print, or a coastal-inspired piece, DIY artwork adds a personal touch to your space and can instantly brighten up any room. Use materials you already have on hand, such as old canvases, paint, or fabric scraps, to keep costs low.

Freshen Up with Citrus Scents

Infuse your apartment with the refreshing scents of summer by using citrus-scented oils, diffusers, or room sprays. Citrus scents, such as lemon, lime, and orange, are known for their uplifting and energizing properties, perfect for creating a cheerful atmosphere. Alternatively, simmer a pot of water with citrus peels and herbs for a natural and fragrant air freshener.

Swap Out Textiles

Trade heavy winter textiles for lighter, breathable fabrics that are more suited to the warmer weather. Swap out solid curtains for patterns, creating more texture and depth in your home. Replace flannel bedding with lightweight cotton or linen sheets for a cooler and more comfortable sleep.

Embrace Indoor-Outdoor Living

Blur the lines between indoor and outdoor living by incorporating elements of nature into your interior decor. Arrange indoor plants near windows or on shelves to bring the outdoors in and create a seamless transition between spaces. Invest in versatile furniture pieces that can easily transition from indoor to outdoor use, such as wicker chairs or poufs.

A Complete Guide: How & When to Clean Household Appliances

Keeping your household appliances clean is not only essential for maintaining their performance but also for ensuring a healthy and hygienic living environment. From your refrigerator to your dishwasher, regular cleaning can extend the lifespan of your appliances and prevent potential issues down the line.

Refrigerator

Start by removing all food items and shelves from the refrigerator. Wipe down the interior surfaces with a solution of mild detergent and water. Don't forget to clean the shelves, drawers, and rubber seals. For stubborn stains and odors, use a baking soda paste or a mixture of vinegar and water. Vacuum the coils at the back of the fridge to remove dust and debris, and clean the exterior with a damp cloth. Aim to clean your refrigerator every three to six months or as needed.

Dishwasher

To clean your dishwasher, remove any food debris from the filter and spray arms. Run a cycle with a dishwasher cleaner or a mixture of vinegar and baking soda to remove built-up grease and limescale. Wipe down the door gasket and exterior with a damp cloth, and check the drain for any blockages. Clean your dishwasher once a month to ensure optimal performance.

Oven and Stove

For electric ovens, remove the racks and soak them in warm, soapy water. Use a non-abrasive cleaner to scrub the interior surfaces, including the walls and door. For gas stoves, remove the grates and burner caps and soak them in soapy water. Wipe down the stovetop with a degreaser and clean any spills or stains. Clean your oven and stove every three to six months or as needed.

Microwave

To clean your microwave, place a bowl of water with lemon slices or vinegar inside and heat it on high for several minutes. The steam will help loosen food splatters and stains. Wipe down the interior with a damp cloth and remove the turntable for cleaning. Use a mild detergent to clean the exterior surfaces and door. Clean your microwave once a week or as needed.

Washing Machine

To clean your washing machine, run a cycle with hot water and vinegar to remove built-up detergent residue and mold. Wipe down the door gasket and detergent dispenser with a damp cloth, and clean the filter if applicable. Leave the door open between washes to allow air to circulate and prevent mold growth. Clean your washing machine every three to six months.

Dryer

Clean the lint trap before or after each use to prevent fire hazards and improve dryer efficiency. Use a vacuum attachment to remove lint from the vent hose and exhaust duct. Wipe down the exterior surfaces with a damp cloth and clean the drum with a mild detergent. Clean your dryer every three to six months or as needed.

Now that you know how and when to clean your household appliances, it's time to put this knowledge into practice. By maintaining a regular cleaning schedule, you can ensure that your appliances stay in top condition and continue to serve you well for years to come.
